Don Jaeger, former Dean at the Interlochen Academy, discusssd the job of the conductor and the role of music as an international language.
Don described his life and international travels as an oboist and musical conductor. After traveling to Amsterdam as a Fulbright scholar, Don performed in many venues, including China (in 1981when few westerners had conducted there), Interlochen, where his orchestra members included Paul Clulo and Chris MacInnes, and Midland, where Paul was his principal trumpeter. He reminded us that music enhances our lives and should be encouraged as a vocation rather than being eliminated from school curricula.
