The Old Town Playhouse in Traverse City is a Standout Community Theater

Betsy Willis, Director of Development, described the history and present status of the Old Town Playhouse.
Betsy traced the history of the Old Town Playhouse from 1975, when the group purchased the First Christian Church in Traverse City. In 1998 the theater was shut down for renovations to meet the safety code. Today the theater is one of the five largest community theaters in the state. After receivng a grant from Rotary Charities the group has increased its visibiity and funding. It employs professional musicians, but its motto is "A role for everyone," meaning that there are plenty of opportunituies for volunteers.
