Part of the Governor's program was the presentation of a banner from the Rotary Club in Duarte, CA: "The mouse that roared."
Urging us to be creative, Jane told us about the Rotary Club in Duarte, California that decided to accept females into membership when that was not permitted by Rotary International. As a result, the Club got kicked out of Rotary. Not satisfied with the result, the Club took Rotary International to court. This ultimately led to the 1987 decision of the U.S. Supreme Court that women cannot be denied membership in service clubs. Since then the club has been dubbed "The mouse that roared."
