On June 6 at a dinner at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club the Zonta Club of Traverse City announced that Kris Thomas had won the 2018 ATHENA Award.

The ATHENA Award recognizes those who strive toward the highest levels of personal and professional accomplishment, who excel in their field, devote time and energy to their community in a meaningful way and forge paths of leadership for other women to follow.

At Sunrise Rotary Kris has not only served as Club President, she also is the current President of the Benzie Sunrise Rotary Foundation.  She also has helped develop the STRIVE and Interact programs at Benzie Central, as well as running Bike Benzie, our signature fundraiser. She also has held a position at Rotary District 6290.

One of the accomplishments especially important to Kris is her work in organizing the Healthy Harvest Program in partnership with Food Rescue, local Rotary clubs and area farmers to provide fresh and healthy food to those in need.
Kris says this work with hunger relief has become her passion.

In addition to all she does through Rotary, Kris is Chair of the Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital Board.  Quite a role model for us all!
