Injury Prevention Coordinator Jennifer Ritter told us about Safe Kids North Shore and its mission to prevent unintentional injuries.

In the U.S. unintentional injuries are the number one cause of death in children ages 1-14.  Safe Kids North Shore partners with organizations around the Grand Traverse Region to reduce unintentional injuries and deaths to our community's children.  Its partnering organizations include Michigan State University Extension, Munson Medical Center, Kohl's 4 Season Safety and various state and county agencies, including the Benzie County Sheriff's Office.

Safe Kids North presents evidence-based programs throughout the community at schools and elsewhere on Road Safety, Home Safety and School & Play.  Motor vehicles continue to be the number one cause of death in our area, followed by suffocation, falls, poisoning and fire.  Many serious injuries and deaths could be prevented through the use of such obvious devices as seat belts, life preservers and biking helmets.
