Carissa Savage and her husband Nathan Cornell own and operate Lost Lake Farm in Honor. It is a 40-acre tract of woods and fields, with 1.5 acres in vegetable production and an 8-acre pasture for pigs.

Carissa and Nathan purchased the farm in 2016 and moved to Honor to farm it in 2017. They raise pastured pork as well as a wide variety of vegetables, microgreens and shiitake mushrooms.  They sell their vegetables at the Frankfort and Elberta Farmers' Markets and to several restaurants, including Rock's Landing, Watervale and Iron Fish.

Carissa and Nathan's goals for the farm include growing as much nutrient-dense, flavorful food as possible while acting as stewards for the land. Thus they are developing healthy soils by covering crops to fix nitrogen and prevent soil erosion, using lots of compost and limiting the amount of tilling.  They test the soil regularly and grow their vegetables organically, using insect netting and tarps rather than synthetic chemicals.

Carissa and Nathan's practices have paid off--after the first year of farming they doubled their yield. Indeed, operations have been so successful that they anticipate hiring several employees to help work the farm.
