Joel Buzzell described the activities of the non-profit CLWA of which he is the President.

The mission of the CLWA is to protect the integrity of Crystal Lake, now and in the future.  Joel talked about the specific areas in which his association is involved, beginning with swimmer's itch--a problem all too familiar to many Club members. The Association is studying products purporting to address the symptoms and taking steps to discourage the merganser population, among other things.

CLWA is also a lead contractor in the development of a $162,000 watershed management plan.  In addition it is working with the Benzie Conservation District, making its testing equipment available for use by other Benzie County lakes.

The Association is also installing a telemetric sysem for lake level management.  In addition CLWA has built and funded a boat-washing station at the new boat launch along Mollineaux Road. While use of the boat-washing facility is mandatory for those launching a boat in Crystal Lake, the Association is addressing the learning curve that many boat owners grapple with.
