Dave Wynne ran our Club Assembly, bringing Club members up-to-date on Club activites.

Among the items Dave covered:

  • District Governor: Dave Thomas will be attending our meeting September 10th.

  • Polio Plus:  Once it is confirmed that polio is wiped out in Nigeria, there will be only two countries left with recent outbreaks:  Afghanistan and Pakistan.  Al Bonney has suggested that we be the lead club on a District International grant request involving Wheels of Hope--a project in Nigeria that we have supported in the past providing a means of transportation for polio victims in Nigeria.

  • Pints for Polio:  Rick Schmitt of Stormcloud has agreed to donate $1 for each pint of beer sold by Stormcloud Brewing Company during Beer Week (October 7-12).  Our Club and the Rotary Club of Frankfort will match these contributions up to $500, and these funds in turn will be matched by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  This will serve two goals of Dave's--working with the Frankfort Club and becoming more active with regard to the fight to eradicate polio.

  • In lieu of our September 24 meeting we are all urged to attend the community forum on Understanding ACE's (Adverse Childhood Experiences) at the Benzie Central Auditorium on Wednesady, September 25 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.  We are urged to bring our spouses/significant others. Kris is working on food arrangements.

  • New members:  August has been Rotary Membership Month, and we need to do what we can to bring in new members.  One aspect of attracting young members is to ensure that meetings end in a timely fashion.  In that regard we had a spirited discussion about how our meeting order might be improved.

  • Matching grants:  Dave reminded us of the opportunity to have our individual contributions to local charities matched by the Rotary Endowment Fund of the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation.  Not taking advantage of such a match means leaving money on the table.

  • Dave will be sending out an assessment form that we are urged to complete.
