Bill Olsen questions the proposition that wind offers the clean, affordable and abundant source of energy that we are seeking.
Asserting that wind power is none of these things, he noted that we are presently getting less than 1.5% of our energy from wind. Because wind turbines are only 30% efficient, Dr. Olsen says that Duke Energy's projections are overstated. In addition, wind turbines require full-time power plant back-up. He believes that we would be far better off putting our dollars into conservation and efficiency from such sources as nuclear power. He recommends that we consider the facts and seek repeal of the state law mandating utilities to obtain a specifed amount of power from alternative sources in a few short years.
