Manuel ("Manny") Lamarche is a college advisor, serving as an Americorps member for AdviseMI at Benzie Central and Frankfort High School. He is pictured here with his family.
Manny says his role is to:
- Provide support to the high school and students
- Gather resources, like policy changes and scholarships
- Communicate with parents
- Create a college-going culture
When Manny talks about encouraging "college," he means any type of post-high school education. Manny encourges kids to consider schools outside (as well as inside) Michigan.
Manny's activities with students include:
- In-class presentations
- College virtual presentations
- Cafeteria sit-downs
- Prizes
- Workshops--in person and on line
- LOTS OF EMAILS!
It is easier for Manny to meet with students at Frankfort, because there he has been provided a designated place to meet with students.
Following Manny's presentation Val explained the plan Sunrise Rotary has worked out with Benzie Central for future college trips sponsored by the Club for Benzie Central students.
