Aaron Cook told us about the Northwestern Michigan College Aviation Division of which he is the Director.
When drones are mentioned, unmanned military planes come to mind. But there are a multitude of other uses for unmanned aerial vehicles, and NMC is a leader in the U.S. in teaching pilots to operate them. Their non-military applications include border patrol, law enforcement, weather research, aerial photography and forest fire mapping, among others. Eventually they will be used to transport cargo--even internationally.
NMC offers a program that can lead to a variety of jobs now and even more in the future. Pilots are at the top of the salary scale, but attractive positions are available in a number of related occupations such as imagery, manufacturing and maintenance. NMC encourages students to take their NMC education in conjunction with a bachelor's degree program at Davenport University or a similar institution. While the total cost is not cheap, it is the best value available in this part of the country.
