Today we were honored to have a visit from District Governor Tom Schmidt and his wife, Denise.

A pastor by career and Rotarian in many auspices, Tom talked about this year's Rotary International theme:  "Be a Gift to the World." To this Tom added his own theme of "Push for Rotary."  Tom described "push" as encompassing four P's:
  1. Plan:  Whether we are talking about a service project or sponsoring a student's participation in the Lifelong Leadership Conference, planning is required.
  2. Promote:  As with RI's emphasis on rebranding, it's important to tell the community who we are.  Be proud to wear the Rotary pin and let people know that you are among the 1.27 million Rotarians in the world.
  3. Persist:  Stick with your plan until your goals are met, as Rotary International has done with its Polio Plus project.  As the ads say, "We are this close!"
  4. Praise:  Know that what we do through Rotary truly is a gift to the world. Donations to the Rotary Foundation really do make a difference around the world.
It looks like a good year ahead for District 6290 with Tom Schmidt at the helm.
