Among other things CEO Jim Austin showed us Benzie County's first hospital, a house on Park Street.

Jim traced the history of Paul Oliver--the man and the hospital. The hospital was opened in 1951 and was formally dedicated in the summer of 1952. It was one of four hospitals opened in northern Michigan following the enactment of the Hill-Burton Act after World War II.

The theme of Jim's presentation was that the community has made--and continues to make--a difference with respect to the hospital. The Auxiliary was formed in 1952 and has played an important role over the years. The same is true with regard to the Foundation, currently under the leadership of our own Paul Clulo. Generous benefactors in our community have likewise played a vital role in the hospital's development. Despite the challenges facing all hospitals, the future looks bright for Paul Oliver.
