Dave is retired from SC Johnson & Sons Inc. and the Dow Chemical Company where he held numerous management positions in environmental, regulatory affairs, microbiology and new product development.

Dave explained the history of Green Chemistry and how industry around the world is moving away from the use of toxic substances in the manufacturing process in favor of less toxic, safer alternatives.  The pharmaceutical industry was given as an example that has made significant advances in the area of Green Chemistry.

Some of the principles of Green Chemistry are designing safer chemicals, use of renewable feed stocks and designing products for degradation.

Dave explained that Green Chemistry is an evolution, it doesn't happen all as once.  It is encouraging to hear how businesses from automobile manufacturers to companies who produce household products are integrating Green Chemistry into their product design.
